The team was called to rescue a 61 year old male walker who had slipped in the mud in the fields above Lothersdale, injuring his leg and rendering him unable to move. Unfortunately the ambulance service was unprecedentedly busy and was unable to get to the casualty, so by the time we were called the walker was also becoming mildly hypothermic. On arrival the team splinted the leg and administered pain relief whilst also applying a warming jacket - they then transferred him to a stretcher and carried him to the waiting fell rescue vehicle. With no ambulance available the team transported the walker the relatively short distance to hospital.
