Dog rescue Threshfield Quarry
Over the weekend, UWFRA attended an incident at Threshfield Quarry following reports of a missing dog, Betty.
Working alongside partner agencies and specialist dog search teams, initial indications suggested Betty may have entered a narrow fissure within the quarry. Teams undertook a significant and complex excavation in very challenging conditions over two days.
Despite extensive efforts, no confirmed signs of Betty were found. As work progressed deeper into the excavation, the risks increased significantly. Following a thorough assessment, and with safety a key priority, the difficult decision was made to bring the operation to a close.
We would like to thank all those who supported this incident, including CRO, the wider caving community, BD Scaffolding, SHC Hire Centres Skipton, Chris Slater and team, Stuart and the staff at Long Ashes & the Gamekeeper’s Inn, and all others who assisted on the ground or behind the scenes.
