South Craven Walking for Health Visit UWFRA

This week, UWFRA was pleased to welcome members of the South Craven Walking for Health group (SCW4H) to the team’s base, affectionately known as The Hut.

The visit provided an opportunity for the group to  learn more about UWFRA’s operational role within the community. Team members shared insight into our activities, specialist equipment, training requirements, and the history of the team, offering a behind-the-scenes look at how UWFRA operates and prepares for callouts.

SCW4H is part of the Ramblers Wellbeing Walks programme, a national initiative that promotes physical activity and wellbeing through friendly, supportive group walks. Established in 2008, South Craven Walking for Health is a volunteer-led scheme that aims to help people become and remain active, particularly those who may face barriers to exercising alone.

The group supports individuals who:

  • Are living with chronic health conditions
  • Are recuperating from illness, surgery, or injury
  • Experience mental or emotional health challenges
  • Need a break from the stresses of daily life, including work
  • Have sedentary lifestyles and wish to improve their fitness
  • Are not able or confident to walk alone

UWFRA shares many of the same values as SCW4H, particularly around community support, wellbeing, and helping people feel confident and safe while enjoying the outdoors. It was a pleasure to meet such an engaged and enthusiastic group, and we were delighted by their keen interest in the team and our work.

We would like to thank South Craven Walking for Health for taking the time to visit and for their interest in UWFRA. To learn more about SCW4H and the walks they offer, please visit:
