Ingleborough

The team was called upon to assist the Cave Rescue Organisation with a stretcher carry from the summit of Ingleborough down to Chapel le Dale.

Two walkers had encountered serious difficulties on the summit in truly atrocious weather conditions. One member of the party had sustained an injury, and both were suffering from hypothermia. Given the severity of the situation, a helicopter rescue was initially requested. However, due to snow and ice, poor visibility, and gale-force winds, an air rescue was unable to proceed.

As a result, a full stretcher evacuation was required in extremely challenging conditions. With two casualties to be evacuated and the descent involving steep, icy terrain with very poor underfoot conditions, additional manpower was requested to ensure the operation could be carried out safely.

Fortunately, several members of our team were already nearby, providing support to participants in the Spine Race. This allowed them to divert quickly and deploy to assist with the rescue without delay.

Despite the difficult conditions, both casualties were safely carried from the hill and handed over to the ambulance service at approximately 11:00pm.

We would like to wish the walkers a speedy and full recovery, and thank all partner organisations involved for their teamwork and professionalism during a challenging operation.
