At 14:40hrs on Sunday @9th December, Team UWFRA was called out to assist Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) following reports of a lady who had fallen at the Cow and Calf, Ilkley, sustaining a lower leg injury.

The first team members arrived promptly on scene and carried out an initial assessment of the casualty. First aid was administered, and every effort was made to make her as comfortable as possible while awaiting the arrival of YAS.

During this initial assessment, the team identified that the casualty was also suffering from stage 1 hypothermia. With cold conditions at the time, appropriate measures were taken immediately to help manage her temperature and prevent further heat loss.

Once Yorkshire Ambulance Service arrived, medical care was formally handed over. After the casualty had been stabilised, the team quickly developed and implemented an evacuation plan. This involved a short stretcher carry back to the waiting double crew ambulance, allowing the casualty to be transferred safely for onward care.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all team members involved, both on and off scene, and to Yorkshire Ambulance Service for their continued teamwork and professionalism.

With the current cold weather, we would like to remind everyone heading outdoors over the coming days to wrap up warm and stay safe.

We wish the casualty a very speedy recovery.
