A Busy and Festive Few Weeks at UWFRA

+7

The past few weeks have been an incredibly busy and rewarding time for everyone at Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association. As the year draws to a close, we wanted to share a snapshot of what our team has been up to and to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who continues to support us.

Skipton AC Christmas Fun Run

We started the festive season on a high with the fantastic Christmas Fun Run organised by Skipton AC. Thanks to the generosity of those who took part and donated, the event raised an incredible £600+ for UWFRA.

We are extremely grateful to everyone who attended, donated, and cheered runners on, and a special thank you goes to Skipton AC for choosing to support our team. Fundraising events like this make a real difference and help us continue to provide a vital service to our community.

Annual Navigation Exercise and Recruitment Night

Next on the calendar was our annual navigation exercise. This is a key part of our training programme and ensures that our members maintain strong map and compass skills  a fundamental requirement for safe and effective mountain rescue operations.

Alongside the navigation exercise, we also incorporated a recruitment session. Four aspiring candidates were put through their paces, covering a range of skills including navigation, rope work, and finishing with a real-time rescue simulation. The evening was a great success, and everyone involved performed brilliantly. A big thank you to all who attended and helped make the night run so smoothly.

UWFRA Christmas Celebration and Long Service Awards

We rounded off the celebrations with our annual Christmas gathering, kindly hosted by the fantastic team at How Stean Gorge. It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening and a chance for the team to come together away from training and call-outs.

During the evening, we were proud to present several long service awards to members of our team. These awards recognise years of commitment, dedication, and countless hours spent training and responding to incidents. A huge congratulations to all recipients, and thank you for the outstanding contribution you have made to keeping our community safe.

Thank You and Merry Christmas

From all of us at UWFRA, we would like to thank our supporters, partner organisations, volunteers, and friends for their continued support throughout the year.

We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and look forward to what the new year brings.
