2025/36
Attendees: 15
Duration: 5hr 12min
Total attendance: 78hr 0min

UWFRA was contacted by North Yorkshire Police requested assistance in locating a gentleman reported missing from the Gargrave area. What began as a time-sensitive search in deteriorating weather conditions ended with the best possible outcome the missing person found safe and well.

Launching the Search

The initial focus of the operation centred around the last known point captured on CCTV. From there, Search Dog Kes was deployed to attempt to pick up a scent trail that could provide vital direction for the search team. Scent-based tracking can be particularly effective in cases where movement is uncertain, and Kes’ involvement offered an important early lead.

With the scent search underway, UWFRA team members began systematic ground searches along the canal towpath and the surrounding network of footpaths. Conditions were far from ideal, with heavy rain and poor visibility adding an extra layer of challenge to an already urgent situation. Despite this, the team maintained steady progress across the designated areas.
