RRMT Practical Exams at White Scar Cave: A Night of Teamwork, Training, and Collaboration

+4

Last night, members of Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association (UWFRA) took part in the Mountain Rescue England and Wales Remote Rescue Medical Technician (RRMT) practical exams, alongside our colleagues from the Cave Rescue Organisation (CRO). For some team members, this formed part of their three-year recertification cycle, while for others it was their first experience of the assessment.

Over the past month, a huge amount of preparation has taken place, and we want to extend our sincere thanks to everyone involved.

A Big Thank You to Our Medical Team

We are incredibly grateful to our dedicated medical team who invested significant time, expertise, and energy into organising and delivering the training required for these exams. Their commitment ensures our volunteers are equipped with the skills needed to provide advanced care in challenging and remote environments.

We’d also like to thank the volunteers, note takers, and the casualties who gave up their Friday evening to support the event. Whether simulating breaks, aches, or mystery injuries, their participation plays a vital role in making the assessment as realistic as possible. Your support truly makes all the difference.

A Unique Training Environment

A special thank you goes to our friends at White Scar Cave, whose generosity allowed the teams to use one of the most distinctive exam environments imaginable. Conducting medical assessments deep underground certainly adds an extra level of realism, and we are incredibly fortunate to have access to such a unique location.

Well Done to Everyone Involved

Congratulations to all who took their exams whether renewing their qualification or stepping up for the first time. The RRMT certification ensures our volunteers can provide essential medical care and critical interventions when casualties need help most, often in difficult and remote terrain.

Working alongside CRO and supporting each other through nights like these is a reminder of the strength and collaboration across the wider rescue community.

Well done to all involved, and thank you once again to everyone who made the evening possible.
