UWFRA Member Completes MREW Party Leader Course in Edale

+1

As part of UWFRA’s ongoing commitment to developing the skills and confidence of its volunteers, one of our team members recently travelled to Edale in the Peak District to take part in the Mountain Rescue England & Wales (MREW) Party Leader course.

The three-day programme brought together 29 volunteers from mountain rescue teams across the country. The course blended classroom learning with realistic, often challenging scenarios designed to reflect the pressures of real search and rescue incidents. Participants were encouraged to step into leadership roles, brief their teams, delegate tasks, gather information and make sound decisions when faced with multiple and sometimes conflicting priorities.

This kind of training is essential within Mountain Rescue. Although every incident is different, the ability to stay calm, think clearly and lead a small group effectively can have a huge impact on the safety and success of a rescue. Courses like this allow volunteers to develop those skills in a supportive but demanding environment, guided by experienced instructors from across England and Wales.

We are pleased to share that our attending team member, Kevin, successfully completed the course. His hard work, professionalism and willingness to learn reflect the commitment shown by volunteers throughout UWFRA.

A big congratulations to Kevin, and sincere thanks to all the instructors and volunteers who give their time to ensure our teams remain capable, confident and ready for whatever the hills may bring.
