A Heartfelt Thank You to Kilnsey Trekking & Riding Centre for Their Continued Support
We are delighted to share our gratitude to Kilnsey Trekking and Riding Centre, who have once again shown their generous support for the Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association. During their much-loved Mini Olympics and Trophy Show, held recently beneath the dramatic backdrop of Kilnsey Crag, the Centre raised an impressive £103 to support our work.
The annual event is a highlight of the local riding calendar and a wonderful celebration of the young riders who take part in the Centre’s busy summer programme. Organised by Michelle Parker Vaughan, who leads the Centre’s Pony Club activities, this year’s show brought together 34 enthusiastic riders, aged between six and seventeen, for a full day of friendly competition, community spirit, and great fun even when the Yorkshire weather delivered its share of rain.
From beginners’ lead rein and first ridden classes to novice equitation, show jumping and the ever-popular handy pony competition, the day offered something for every level of rider. Independent judges Liz Adams and Zoe Elliot oversaw the main classes, while Lianne Parkin and Joanne Ridehalgh judged the handy pony section. Thanks to the efforts of Katherine Mangham as collecting ring steward, the day ran smoothly from start to finish.
A special mention must go to Sue and Ruth Leighton, whose busy food stall provided warmth, comfort, and smiles and ultimately helped raise the funds donated to UWFRA. Their hard work, along with the efforts of every volunteer, parent, rider, and spectator, has directly supported our ability to respond to emergencies across Upper Wharfedale.
We are continually humbled by the support we receive from the local community, and Kilnsey Trekking and Riding Centre has long been one of our staunchest supporters. Their commitment to helping young people grow in confidence, skill, and love of the outdoors aligns closely with our own values. To Michelle, Jane Pighills, the entire team, and everyone who took part thank you. Your generosity helps ensure that our rescue volunteers can continue to provide a vital service across the Dales.
As the Centre looks ahead to festive Christmas Pony Rides and a new season of lessons, treks, and Pony Club activities, we wish them every success. We are proud to be part of such a strong, caring community.
Thank you, Kilnsey from all of us at UWFRA.
