The team were called out today to assist a local male who had slipped in the snow and sustained a lower leg injury whilst out running on the river bank near to Grassington. The casualty was treated at the scene by the Yorkshire Ambulance service (YAS). Suspecting a break, pain relief was administered and the leg splinted before UWFRA carried him to the waiting road ambulance.
During the start of a joint Casualty Care training weekend with Clapham Cave Rescue Organisation (CRO) at the UWFRA base in Grassington, CRO were called to assist a 40yr old male with a suspected broken ankle near to the summit of Pen y ghent. Due to the number of CRO members at the UWFRA depot it was decided to dispatch Fell 1 with 1 UWFRA member driving and 4 CRO on board.
The casualty was located high on the hill above the snow line where his companions had sensibly kept him sheltered and warm prior to the teams arrival. CRO members administered pain relief then splinted the injured leg before placing him in an insulated casualty bag & stretchering him to the team landrover near Hull Pot. There he was driven to the waiting road ambulance.
The team were called today to assist a female who had fallen and sustained a lower leg injury whilst out walking in the Cow & Calf area of Ilkley moor. The casualty was located by phone to the locally known 'Crocodile Rock' and members were despatched there to help. Suspecting an ankle fracture the team administered Entinox to the patient before splinting the limb. The team then stretchered the lady down to the car park where a friend collected her and took her to hospital
The team were called out by North Yorkshire Police (NYP) to assist a couple who had become disorientated due to fog whilst walking above Grasswoods from Grassington to Conistone. The couple were without torch and were concerned about the impending darkness so requested help navigating themselves off the fell. 2 local members were dispatched, located the pair in Bastow Wood and escorted them back to their vehicle.
